Matted fur in dogs is a common issue that can lead to discomfort and health problems, but it is largely preventable with proper grooming and care.
A matting waiver is required for all customers.
What causes matting?
Matted fur occurs when a dog's hair becomes tangled and knotted, often due to a lack of regular grooming. Common causes include:
Dematting
When a dog’s hair becomes matted, you must decide whether to de-mat or shave. This is determined by the degree of matting. If the matting is not too severe, you can sometimes comb out the mats with a little effort. If the matting is extensive or extremely tight, the most humane option is to shave it off and let the fur re-grow. Matted hair can be painful and uncomfortable for a dog.
We practice humanity over vanity. If matting is excessive and de-matting will cause pain or stress to your dog, we recommend to shave your dog down to remove the matted fur.
